Other Fishing
For the fisherman who seeks excitement and a change of pace then your attention must turn to the experienced captains who ply the waters of the St. Lawrence in search of the big catch. Seasonally you can enjoy deep sea fishing for practically any species under the license of your captain.
Shark has become a popular catch from our harbours as well as tuna which
have weighed in at over 1000 lbs, mackeral, halibut, or cod. Fresh water species such as speckled trout can be fished with worm or spoons from the Forks bridge to the lake until August 31 after which time the lakes and brooks are closed to speckled trout fishing. The month of September you can fish speckled trout but catch and release only. Rainbow and brown trout fishing can continue until Sept. 30 to keep. Inquire at the
main desk of The Margaree Lodge in order to arrange a charter from any of the wharves in the area. Your congenial host or hostess will need the
number in your party and the length of your fishing experience and the rates which vary from wharf to wharf and seasonally. Halibut is also a prized game fish which attracts the avid fishermen or fisherwoman to the open sea. These specimen range from 25-60 lbs. and some weigh in at a lofty 400 lbs. They provide quite a fight and the experience is awesome for the seasoned pro or beginner to the ocean. A reminder, however, to wear clothing that is layered for wind protection as well as soft sole shoes to allow freedom of movement while reeling in your halibut catch. Enjoy the experience on the coast of Cape Breton from your hosts at The Margaree Lodge.
